Is Matt Ryan The Next Joe Montana Or All Hype?
With Matt Ryan’s success early in his career with the Atlanta Falcons, the questions is being asked “Is Matt Ryan the next Joe Montana”?
At this point in Ryan’s career the comparison to Joe Montana is a valid one. Ryan has better regular season passing numbers in his first three years in the NFL, he’s led the Falcons to the playoffs two of his first three years, and he’s shown the poise and leadership of a Montana, Manning, or Brady.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. In 2010 Ryan led the Falcons to a 13-3 record and the NFC title game (loss to the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers).
This being said Ryan has a long way to go. Montana played in eight pro-bowls, and is currently seventh in career passer rating (92.3). Montana won four (4-0) Super Bowls with the 49ers, with three Super Bowl MVP awards. “Cool Joe” also holds the record for most Super Bowl pass completions (83) and attempts (122) without an interception. It is argued that Montana is the greatest quarterback to play the game.
Time and ability to perform in the clutch will tell us if Matt Ryan is the next Joe Montana, or just the next Joe Theismann.
